Back from the beach

On Saturday we got back from our week on the beach in Oak Island, NC.  Today when I got to work I had 162 unread e-mails and someone had moved one of the PCs out from under my desk and unplugged my keyboard.  So I’m kinda busy today.

On Monday I made a fairly decent sand castle.  Unfortunately it started raining as I was finishing the fences, so I didn’t get to do as much as I had wanted to.  I did manage to snap a few pictures.  I really liked the bridge.

Sadly, after the coming of high tide, it would have been impossible for a team of the greatest archeologists of all time, using the most sophisticated tools ever devised, to determine that a castle ever existed on that spot.  The kingdom was completely leveled by tsunami.

I’m a model

Someone at work just came around asking if anyone wanted to be a model for some kind of brochures we’re putting together.  I volunteered. They had me stand in front of a whiteboard, while three other people sat at a desk, and we pretended to be in a meeting.  You know, the important kind of meeting, where proactive synergy leverages best-in-class paradigm solutions.  I’ll try to get ahold of one of the brochures and put a scan up here as soon as I can.

Blog overkill?

Well I’ve been doing this updates-every-Monday-and-Thursday thing for nearly two months now, and traffic to my site seems to have actually slowed down.  Of course I’m judging traffic by number of comments, so this could also have to do with the most frequent commenter being pretty busy lately.  There are still a lot of lurkers, because when I was at the beach for a week, traffic (as in, page views and bytes transferred) did not decrease by as much as I had expected (i.e., I do not account for the majority of page views on my own site).

So are two posts a week too much?  Should I just go back to posting whenever I feel like it?  I’m thinking I’ll keep posting on Mondays, but only post on Thursdays when I have something worth saying.  And of course I’ll omit my post on the occasion that Stephanie posts something beforehand.

Lost season 3

I found this to be rather interesting: Lost will be airing without reruns next season.  Another article (can’t find a link, sorry) said they will air six episodes in a row, starting in October, finishing up in November with some kind of mini cliffhanger.  Then they’ll start back in early February and continue to the end of the season without reruns.  I think that’s pretty cool.  I think 24 did something like this too.. but I don’t watch 24 so I’m not really sure.

The web that was

Remember the internet before CSS?  Set the dial to 1996 and crank up the flux capacitor for the worst web design advice ever.  Here’s a sample: “If you want people to read [your web pages], don’t [use standard HTML constructs]. They take away your typographic control. Specify your own font sizes when you want a size change.”  To a nongeek, let me just say that reading this statement is tantamount to reading “When running with scissors, make sure they are always pointed up.  Otherwise, if you fall, you might stab yourself in the thigh.”

I recently discovered that there is a classification of political ideologies that is kinda like what I believe:  South Park Republican.  Okay so the term was coined five years ago, but I had never heard it until about a month ago.  So I thought I’d share.

Happily Ever After. . . and how it all began!!!

Growing up, some people might say I was a little sheltered by my parents.  Looking back, I would say that I agree, but I don’t feel that it was a bad thing at all.  We didn’t watch all this garbage that is on TV these days.  Then again, I don’t really remember what was on TV back when I was growing up.  However, I do remember one thing that we loved to watch over and over again, and in my opinion this is what really kicked off the “Princess” fad.  My mother would go to library repeatedly to check out the Shelley Duvall’s Faerie Tale Theatre.  This was a series of the old faerie tales that we all know and love, but performed by real people, some of my more favorite movies being The Dancing Princesses, The Three Little Pigs, and of course, The Princess and the Pea.  I tell you all of this background because this past weekend, Kip and I were up in Raleigh visiting with friends and my little sister.  While we were there, Mandy and I watched her copy of Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.  This prompted me to tell Mandy that what I would really like for Christmas this year, was a copy of The Dancing Princesses on DVD.  She proceeded to say that it was totally awesome.  When we got home, I had to go to BJ’s to get new tires for my car, and while waiting I wandered around the store and found a DVD which was the complete collection of Shelley Duvall’s Faerie Tale Theatre.  Of course I immediately bought and have been watching the movies contained on the six disc set of movies.  For those of you that are unaware of the number of movies contained in the collection, I will quantify it for you; there are 26 faerie tales in all.  And they are all totally amazing.  Kip has been “watching” them with me, but doesn’t seem as totally enamored with them as I am, but he doesn’t seem to understand the awesomenisity of their awesomeness.  He doesn’t realize that growing up watching these movies and totally loving them then has caused me to not care how old they look, or how bad the acting is.  They are the movies that helped to mold and shape my young mind.  I will always love and cherish them for as long as I live.  What is even cooler is that the next generation of little Princesses is going to get to experience the magic of this series as well since my mother wanted me to get a copy of the collection for her to give Peanut (my soon to be niece) for her to watch as she grows up too!!!

Moth Prophecies

Yesterday afternoon there were these two ridiculously huge moths on the railing right next to the door of our apartment.  So I snapped a few pictures of them to share:

Green moth Yellow moth Yellow moth

This morning the yellow one was still there, although it had moved to a wall nearby.  They are kind of creepy—like they are omens from a horror movie, indicating that we won’t live to see next Tuesday.  So if Stephanie and I die in the next eight days, blame it on the moths.
