Kip Home ownership

Well, a week ago today Stephanie and I closed on a house, which officially makes us homeowners.  I advise anyone reading this to not listen to anyone who tells you that it takes 30-45 minutes to close on a house:  counting driving time to the attorney’s office (on the opposite side of downtown Charlotte), I was gone for nearly three hours.  But anyway, we aren’t fully moved in yet; all the big stuff is going to be moved this Saturday.  The new home is in Concord, but still pretty close to where I work.  We’re also really close to the speedway, which means I’ll have to take a different route home from work during the two race weeks, but I already had to plan my life around avoiding races in my apartment as well so that’s nothing new.

We don’t have many pictures, and if we did they would be of sterile white rooms with no furniture.  Maybe after we’ve done some painting and decorating I’ll put some pictures up for you guys to browse, but for now I’ll put up one that the home inspector took:

Congrats.

Question:   How is the soil’s pH on the property?  Can one, say, grow a crop such as beets?
Fact:          Beets grow as far south as Brazil.

That is all.

Cool.  The little round window by the door seems oddly placed to me.  It’s like a portal on a boat or something, heh.  Is that termite damage by the bay window in the back?  Na, I’m just funnin’.  I can’t really tell...I don’t have CSI-like image “enhancement” tools like they do in their magical computer land.

To explain the port hole thing: just inside the door, there is a stairway to the left that goes up one step, has a landing in front of the port hole, then goes up to the second floor (going away from the door).  Also just inside is a hallway-ish area going straight away from the door to the living room.

As for termite damage, we had an inspection done and the inspector said there was none.  I think the termite inspection was required (by either the government, the lender, or the insurance company), but if not it’s a good idea anyway, especially given how humid it is around here.  Of course if you were on CSI, you could zoom in on the reflection off the glass and see if the people across the street had termite damage.

I also like the way the picture cropped so that you can’t tell the neighbor’s house would be about three pixels to the right.
